Improving Entrepreneurship through Vocational Education

Wiley participated in a four-day conference cum exhibition, 'India-US Technology Summit & Knowledge Expo 2014', organized by the Confederation of India Industry- a premier association of Indian businesses which works to create an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India. Mr. Vikas Gupta, MD, Wiley India, participated in the panel discussion on, 'Improving Entrepreneurship through Vocational Education'. The session focused on learning outcomes in non-formal school education, vocational education and higher education and the role of National Skills Qualification Framework in changing the way education is imparted in the country. National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) is a quality assurance framework for competency based skill development which organizes qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude. Mr. Atul Bhatnagar, COO, National Skill Development Corporation was the moderator for the session. Vikas Gupta at CII Knowledge Expo Addressing an eminent gathering of educationists and professionals, Mr. Gupta said, "Wiley is committed to build sustainable ecosystems aimed at transferring hard skills to students at the Institutional level. We have launched training & certification courses in latest technologies, in collaboration with leading Institutions. Wiley's Purdue NExT programs and Wrox IT Certifications are examples of such technology- enabled learning solutions." Other panelists in the session included, Dr. Miriam Carter, Director, OP Jindal Community College and Former Commissioner, Montgomery County Commission for Women, USA, Prof. Gita Rajan, CT Council Member, Vital Voices Global Partnership & Prof. of English & Senior Research Fellow at Fairfield University and Dr. Shanti Johnson, Professor & Associate Dean at University of Regina. Together, the panelists deliberated upon ways to induce successful partnerships in honing entrepreneurship at institutional level and methods to sustain them.
